FLFW was founded in 2020 to tackle food waste issue with BSF, starting with communities on islands. FLFW partnered with local authorities and community members on Koh Samui and set up the first community compost facility. In 2022, FLFW received additional funding to build a second facility on Koh Si Chang. The facility on both islands are currently operated by the local communities and FLFW helps support further in the sale of by-products.

11.6 By 2030, reduce the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities, including by paying special attention to air quality and municipal and other waste management
2.4 By 2030, ensure sustainable food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, that help maintain ecosystems, that strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters and that progressively improve land and soil quality
Environment (landfills and waste disposal sites) |
There are over 120 waste disposal sites in Thailand currently with a lot more illegal dumping sites. Many landfills are faced with overloaded capacities and building more landfills does not help tackle the waste problem sustainably.
FLFW secure food wastes from sources and convert them into animal feed and fertilizers, which prevents the wastes from reaching landfills |

Municipal office and other business operators that manage wastes |
Actors responsible for collecting wastes from households, offices and factories, etc. and transporting wastes to waste disposal sites. They usually charge a fee for the waste management service and have to pay fees to the waste disposal sites for dumping.

FLFW BSF processing facility serves as an alternative waste disposal site |

Animal feed (aqua, poultry, cattle, pet food) industry |
Animal feed industry requires high protein feed which currently mainly comes from soy protein, fishmeal and fish oil, production of which upsets ecosystem balance and is unsustainable in the long run.
FLFW provides alternative protein source from by-products of BSF |
