FLFW was founded in 2020 to tackle food waste issue with BSF, starting with communities on islands. FLFW partnered with local authorities and community members on Koh Samui and set up the first community compost facility. In 2022, FLFW received additional funding to build a second facility on Koh Si Chang. The facility on both islands are currently operated by the local communities and FLFW helps support further in the sale of by-products.
